This week we made our annual pilgrimage over the border for Bibendum’s Scotland Tasting and brought with us the fun and games of Just Add…Bibendum. Following the success of January’s Just Add…Bibendum tasting in London, the tasting at Society M in Glasgow was all about great wines and how to improve wine sales within the restaurants, pubs, hotels and shops of Scotland.
On the day Bibendum’s Training team were looking at the ins and outs of food and wine matching, while our Market Insights team provided information on wine consumers in Scotland, what they want to drink and the fastest growing grape varieties within major regions around the country. Guests could look at the finer details of the Taste Test, finding out the way people taste and why we like what we like. Plus in attendance were a few of the Marketing team, talking to guests about engaging with their customers through social media and wine list design.
On to the wines. We wanted to make tasting through the 140 or so wines as informative and relevant as possible for the wine fans on the day, so we divided up the wines into easy to manage chunks. This included 25 wines to list under £25 (or put on a shelf for under £10), wines with Vivid credentials, new arrivals for 2012, wines that relate to the flavour profiles of Scottish consumers, a meet the producers area, old school classics, interesting wines from the New World, fine wine and lastly a few Bibendum spirits.
After a great tasting, we’re already looking forward to getting back to Scotland in 2013…In the meantime: here are a few photos from our day in Glasgow -
