Wine and social media, a match made in heaven

Barrels socialising at Dinastia Vivanco

Here at Bibendum we feel that wine and social media are a match made in heaven. We love wine and enjoy nothing better than talking about it to anyone else who shares our enthusiasm. It doesn’t matter to us where this conversation takes place; at events or with our customers, on Twitter or Facebook – anywhere will do.  Wine is such a personal and often passionate experience, sharing it with friends & colleagues is the fastest way to learn as well as pick up useful hints and tips.  Social media is just sharing made easy.

One of the keenest and most active social media advocates is Rioja producer Dinastia Vivanco. The brains behind Dinastia Vivanco recognised early on the potential that social networks have for sharing a love of wine. The Riojan winery is active on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube, and, through their Foundation, recently launched a major initiative by making their entire Documentation Centre available online.

We know from experience how difficult and challenging it is to pioneer in any field. Recognition is particularly rewarding when doing things differently. This is why we were proud and happy to discover that Dinastia Vivanco was named joint “Winery of the Year” after a popular vote by the 25,000 members of Verema. Verema we learn is the leading Spanish language site for wine and food lovers around the world. The award being voted by end users showed how important interacting with them really is.

This high profile award is particularly gratifying for Dinastia Vivanco as it reflects the views of consumers as well as wine trade professionals. The site attracts a wide range of members from around the Spanish-speaking world with a combination of wine, food and travel content including online tastings.

The power and influence of social media can no longer be ignored. Like it or loath it, involvement is essential. It gives brands a unique opportunity to listen and interact directly with their customers – with the added bonus of being seen as modern and innovative.

So to all those still unconvinced simply start being social and see what a difference it can make.
