The Battle of the Rhones: North vs South – Chateau de St Cosme Condrieu

By Willie Lebus

Willie Lebus

I am a Rhone nut!

Not many people you know put on a tasting dinner featuring 17 Condrieu from the 1995 vintage at the Square. Epic! White Rhone is seriously underrated. White Hermitage is so much better value than White Burgundy. And it doesn’t look like the morning after the night before….

The Battle of Rhones: North vs South – Chateau de Beaucastel, Chateauneuf du Pape

Amy Holmes

Last year I was lucky enough to attend a Chateau de Beaucastel dinner presented by Marc Perrin. We tasted verticals of both Chateau de Beaucastel and Coudoulet de Beaucastel, needless to say I was completely won over.

The Battle of the Rhones: North vs South – Cote Rotie Domaine Jamet

By Omar Raafat, Bibendum Fine Wine Trade Sales

Omar Rafaat

Until a recent trip to the Rhone I would have said the South with very little hesitation – I’ve always loved the intensity of the fruit, the garrigue character and the complexity from the blend of heady Grenache with the darker and more structured Syrah and Mourvedre. As a region it has always offered great value from …

By Simon Swift, The Wondering Wine Company

Wondering Wine Company at Hatfield House

Earlier this year Bibendum launched its new wine service concept for outside events, and the idea has proven to be a simple but extremely popular one as this summer saw Bibendum wines being served in practical but creative packaging at sporting, music, food and cultural events around the UK.

It was …

The Battle of the Rhones: North vs South – Clos des Papes, Chateauneuf du Pape

Ben Collins 1

My top Rhone from the other neck of the woods is Clos des Papes from Chateauneuf-du-Pape – the wine is truly fab if a bit over-eulogised by the great Robert Parker. At a recent BYO dinner, with stellar bottles (Petrus and more), the wine was right up there with the best of them.

A Legend of the Languedoc – Mas Daumas de Gassac, Aime Guibert

By Rob Pickard

Mas Daumas de Gassac 1

There is a lot of talk about artisanal, hand-crafted wines but a true free-thinking person has become such a rarity these days, with all the economic pressures faced by farmers and bankers alike, it is startling to find someone who says about their wine, without skipping a beat, “This is not commercial. This is poetry.”

Aime …

Grande Marque Champagne Blog: Growing in Popularity – Grower Champagnes

By Andrew Craig, www.grandemarque.blogspot.com

Champagne

There are more than 15,000 growers in Champagne owning around 90% of the vineyards, yet if you were to ask most people to name some champagne, they would struggle to name more than ten. This is because the vast majority of these growers sell their grapes on to Negociants. These tend to be large ‘branded’ Champagne houses for which consistency of …
