With it being Fairtrade Fortnight from 22nd February to 7th March we here at Bibendum thought we’d let you know a little about how The Fairtrade Foundation is asking the nation to swap your usual stuff for Fairtrade stuff in The Big Swap…

Chateau Latour
A very interesting study was published this week by the Aquitaine Office of Food, Agriculture and Forests (DRAAF), on the price of vineyard land from 1991 to 2008.
It clearly reflects what has happened to the price of the wine itself, which is the enormously widening gulf in Bordeaux between the haves and the have-nots…
If you are looking to …

Ben rocks it
Working in the Marketing Department often leads to being tasked with many a weird and wonderful request. Though none quite as random as when being told to go and record a track to compliment this year’s Annual Tasting so Bibendum can post the highlights online.
There was a rumour I’d recently started a band, Imya, but we …

“Think, for a moment, of an almost paper-white glass of liquid, just shot with greeny-gold, just tart on your tongue, full of wild flower scents and spring-water freshness. And think of a burnt-umber fluid, as smooth as syrup in the glass, as fat as butter to smell and sea-deep with strange flavours. Both are wine.
Wine is grape-juice. Every drop of liquid filling so many bottles has been drawn out of the ground by the …

Greece’s finest white grape comes into its own on the Aegean island of Santorini where the vines cling for dear life to the steep volcanic slopes. Anyone looking for an interesting alternative to Chardonnay, try your luck here – it’s similar in style to some white Burgundy, rich fruit with a taut mineral structure, yet with a nose of white flowers, honey and candied citrus – totally delicious.

Old Block Shiraz
After a quick recovery from Petaluma’s Rieslings (see previous post), it was was Toby Barlow’s (St Hallett Winemaker/Site Manager) turn to take the stage. St Hallett was established in the Barossa Valley in 1944, but the first vintage of “Old Block” Shiraz was the 1982. However, it was with the 1985 wine, which …

Here at Bibendum we feel that wine and social media are a match made in heaven. We love wine and enjoy nothing better than talking about it to anyone else who shares our enthusiasm. It doesn’t matter to us where this conversation takes place; at events or with our customers, on …

Haut Brion harvest
If you listen to the Bordelais every vintage is good one. Despite their tendency towards hyperbole it seems that 2009 might just live up to the hype. But it is always safer to hear a local voice. First here are Jane Anson’s general thoughts on the vintage. Jane is a wine and travel writer based in …

The line up
It was back in the day during the mid-1990’s, that I first made the acquaintance of the Australian wines from Petaluma and St Hallett. In fact, I used to list them whilst I was at Oxo Tower between 1996 and 2000. Over the years, both wineries have become firm personal favourites and have become …
